Current research indicates that parents experience a wide variety of intense and conflicting emotions when endeavoring to deal with children who learn differently. Educators and parents should work together on these issues with a spirit of sensitivity, cooperation, and common sense of purpose. In order to create such an environment, parents, educators, and other professionals must gain an understanding of and sensitivity toward each other's life experi-ences. This understanding is crucial in order to communicate effectively to better understand and help a child who struggles in school. This workshop is designed for parents and professionals.

Richard Lavoie, M.A., M.Ed. holds three degrees in Special Education and has served as an adjunct professor or visiting lecturer at numerous universities including Harvard, Manhattanville College, and Georgetown. He has been an administrator of residential programs for children with special needs since 1972 and is a member of the Professional Advisor Board of the Learn-ing Disabilities Association.

Mr. Lavoie is the creator of the award-winning films,"How Difficult Can This Be?: The F.A.T. City Workshop" and "Last One Picked, First One Picked On: The Social Implications of Learning Disabilities". His books and films have brought his sensitive and compelling message to countless thousands throughout the world.
